Songwriting and improvisations

As a kid, I used to sit by the piano, playing with the notes and rhythms like in the videos below.

I'd get into a timeless space, let go of reality, explore the realms of imagination, and just play.

When I got older and got my own place, I had a pedal organ.

I could sit for hours by that organ.

Today, I have a MIDI keyboard.

I'm aiming to sit down playing for at least a few minutes each day.

Searching for new sounds, giving in to the melodies that arise.

It's definitely a way for me to just be, to relax.

Sittings – October 2023

I recorded the video below during one of the sessions mentioned.

It turned out sounding a lot like the soundtrack for Stranger Things, didn't it? :)

I don't know about the melody, but definitely the synth sound.

Either way, I really liked it.

This melody below's been following me around for some time now and will likely be a song at some point.

Sitting – October 2020

Three years ago, my friend Anna Maria Liljestrand (a brilliant photographer) and I went to our cabin/house family estate where my grandma's from.

We spent a night or two there, just hung out, relaxed, went for slow walks, and ate food.

She also did some crossword puzzles, she's one of those :) ... (I must admit, I've always been really crappy at doing crossword puzzles hahah)

And she shot some fantastic photos of me.

I was seven months pregnant.

And I was done recording three out of four songs for my EP.

During that stay, Anna-Maria recorded the video below with my phone while I was rehearsing on the old pedal organ.

I was working on this song, By the Unconditional Kind, and I wasn't done recording it in the studio with Henrik yet.

I love this land, the houses, the lake, the woods...

And I love how well it all came together, that I got to write and record these four songs while pregnant.

I love Anna Maria and her ways of taking pictures, her laughter, and her tears..

And I love the pedal organ.

When I'm working on a song, there's often a loop going on in the back of my head.. from which I build the rest.

A loop that hammers, unapologetically, wanting to be heard, having something to say.

This loop in the video below was the foundation for By the Unconditional Kind.

And as usual, it did not end up in the actual recording.

It's like the foundation of a house..

Like it's there, but it's under the ground, and no longer visible.

(PS. I love how you can see Anna Marias reflection while filming, in the picture on the wall beside me)
